Mentor Support Question Checklist
Use this checklist to ensure your forum posts, 1:1 coaching questions, and group coaching call discussions are well-prepared. Clear, specific questions lead to more effective guidance and productive interactions with mentors and peers.
1. Do Your Research First
- Search the forum or Facebook group for similar questions to avoid duplication. Try different keywords to see how others have phrased similar issues.
- Review relevant statutes and case law related to your question. If applicable, include them for context.
- Consider additional research tools like Google Scholar or Fastcase through your State Bar.
2. Prepare Your Question
- Clearly define the client and specify the relevant state or jurisdiction.
- Identify the exact issue and what guidance you need.
- Keep your explanation concise and focused. Overly broad or vague questions are harder to answer effectively.
- Remember: mentors provide guidance, not document drafting or language approval.
3. Show Your Work
- Outline your analysis and possible solutions before posting.
- If you see multiple paths forward, explain the advantages and disadvantages of each.
- Identify specific areas where you need clarification. This helps mentors understand your thought process and provide more targeted feedback.
4. Stay Engaged
- Watch for responses and follow up promptly. Mentors may tag you with follow-up questions.
- Acknowledge helpful answers and ask for clarification if needed.
Following this checklist ensures you receive the most valuable guidance and makes for a more efficient and productive experience in the forum and coaching calls. Thanks for your engagement!
